10 positions (PhDs, Postdocs, Technicians) in cancer research
Open from: 25.06.2024
Expiry date: 12.07.2024
Status: CLOSED
The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine (IIGM) is a research foundation dedicated to the promotion of
translational research and precision medicine through the training of young scientists in the fields of human
genomics, systems biology, immunology and bioinformatics.
The IIGM is seeking 10 young researchers (PhD, Postdoc, Technician) to join its laboratories of Genetics and
Molecular Epidemiology, Cancer Genomics and Bioinformatics, Genomic Instability and Tumour Immunity and
Chemical Biology to collaborate in the characterization of drug-tolerance in gastrointestinal cancers.
Our research focus
Drug tolerance is one the most critical threats in the therapeutic management of human cancers thought to be
responsible for tumour recurrency. Drug tolerance occurs in a small population of cancer cells that evade
therapeutic treatment by entering a reversible, slow proliferative state that is difficult to target using
conventional approaches. Identifying the biological mechanisms and translating the research findings into viable
therapeutic options is the aim of CARESS, a multi-centre research project funded by private donations.
Candidate responsibilities
• Conduct interdisciplinary research.
• Support research group activities
• Work on an own scientific qualification project.
Candidate profile
The pre-doc/technician candidates should already have wet lab/computational experience and an interest in
science. The post-doc candidates should already have proven their potential for scientific excellence by an
outstanding quality of their Doctorate/PhD research in molecular bioengineering, cell biology, epigenetics, drug
discovery, functional genetic screening, chemical and computational biology, bioinformatics or a related field.
Knowledge of Italian is an advantage, but due to the international character of the research environment not
strictly necessary.
We offer:
• The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine offers an outstanding interdisciplinary network of potential
cooperation partners, combining university and non-university research as well as science and business.
• The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine provides state of art Genomics and single-cell Genomics
Sequencing platforms.
• The Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine provides a family-friendly working environment with flexible
working options.
• Competitive remuneration is based on the candidates’ personal qualifications.
• 30 days of vacation per calendar year.
The positions are offered on a fixed-term basis for a maximum of 3 years, renewable annually.
All positions are full-time (40 hours per week) and will start ideally from September/October 2024.

• A detailed CV
• The names of 2 references (1 reference for post-laureate students)
• A research proposal (for postdoc applicants only)
• Certificates, transcripts including all grades of your previous qualifications
• A lists of publications
Please include your name and the position you are applying for (PhD, Technician, or Postdoc) in the subject line of the email.
